Why I'm Starting A Money Newsletter In 2021
I think we can all agree that last year was really hard.
Without rehashing everything that went down in 2020, if you’re like me, you breathed a small sigh of relief at midnight on Dec 31st.
Sure, it was largely symbolic, because the things that made 2020 so hard are by no means over. The world didn’t magically fix itself at 12:01am on January 1st. The global pandemic that has destroyed the wealth and livelihoods is ongoing. But it still felt like something had ended, and another something had started. It feels like, maybe, now, we can begin to repair the damage that 2020 did to us as a nation, as a community, and as individuals.
Maybe you were one of the people who were hit hard by the financial turmoil of 2020. If so, this newsletter is for you. Every week, you’ll find tips and ideas to help get you back on your feet. I’ll cover some of my favorite ideas for saving money, for creating additional income through “side hustles” and how you can put your military benefits to best use. You should never have to live in fear of poverty, especially if you’re a member of the Armed Forces.
Maybe you were fortunate, and 2020 didn’t destroy your financial future. If so, this newsletter is also for you. I’ll share my personal experiences with investing, the stock market, apps that I love to use, and tools to research investing options. In fact, let me take this opportunity, in the very first post, to share what has been, for me, the greatest factor in helping me actually create financial security and wealth: a paid financial advisor.
A lot of people on the internet will sneer at the idea of paying someone else to manage your money. And it’s definitely true that, in this day and age, we as individuals have more information, research and knowledge at our fingertips than we have ever had before to help us make sound money decisions. But, let me ask you a question: Would you go skydiving, or rock climbing, or skiing without ever taking a lesson? Would you try to fly a plane after watching some YouTube videos on flying? No? Then let me encourage you to consider NOT taking your financial future solely into your own hands and trying to do it all by yourself. Enlist the aid of somebody who can help you, who has the heart of a teacher, and who will show you how to help yourself!
(Note: this does not mean First Command. Don’t sign up with them. Ever.)
So, there you have it. A few of my reasons for starting a brand new newsletter for military and veteran families to help undo or repair some of the financial damage of 2020, and to help you move forward into 2021 with more wealth, more confidence, and more security in your future than you have now. No gimmicks, no thousand-dollar courses, no “gurus.”
